Last in this series of foreign blooks is My Boyfriend is a Twat by Zoe McCarthy from The Friday Project. McCarthy's blog was voted the Best European Blog in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Two things are worth noting. First, in an interview at DollyMix, McCarthy was asked, "What impact overall has the blog had on your life?" She replied:
"Obviously, I am proud to have been approached to write a book (called 'My Boyfriend is a Twat' and should be out in July), even though I initially said that I wasn't interested in writing one. Clare Christian at The Friday Project really knows how to twist people's arms – I'm still in pain."Oddly enough, this is the only reference that I could find that suggests The Friday Project went looking for a book deal with McCarthy.
Second, Scott Pack from The Friday Project wrote in "Americans, Poachers & Cola Cubes"
... sinister forces at work. Attempts have been made to poach two of our authors from underneath our collective noses. Emma Kennedy has been tapped up by another publisher - her hilarious, but very practical, guide How To Bring Up Your Parents is coming this summer. Whereas Zoe who writes the blog My Boyfriend Is A Twat was approached by a big league agent who attempted to woo her with talk of how much he liked her blog. Unfortunately, if he had actually read the blog he would have noticed frequent references to her forthcoming book from The Friday Project. Oh well, he probably sold a book for a million pounds a few seconds later.Ironic, isn't it, that I couldn't find any of those "frequent references"? Just think that I should point out that Zoe's blog does have a search function but it's a web-search not a blog search. And even though I found a mention on May 22, 2007 on another blog that Zoe had sent off the manuscript, looking in her archives for May I couldn't spot any announcement.
